SUMMARY:Accessibility Guidelines, Standards, and Recommendations in Augmen
 ted and Mixed Reality
DESCRIPTION:Carmen Van Ommen (Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University), Jessy
ca Derby (Design Interactive), and Barbara Chaparro (Embry-Riddle Aeronaut
ical University)\n\nA survey conducted by the CDC estimates that 26% of Am
ericans are living with a disability. People with disabilities are more li
kely to encounter barriers in their environment that keep them from having
an equivalent user experience as those without disabilities. Often, makin
g products or technologies more accessible is not a priority when first de
veloping the product, which means people with disabilities may not be able
to easily use these products when they are released. While augmented real
ity (AR) and mixed reality (MR) technologies have been released, the techn
ology as a whole is under development. If people with disabilities are to
be included as a user of this technology, making the technology accessible
needs to be a priority. Standards, guidelines, and recommendations for ho
w to improve the accessibility of AR/MR technology can be helpful in assis
ting developers when creating this technology. The purpose of this literat
ure review is to assess the standards, guidelines, and recommendations for
accessibility as it pertains to AR/MR.\n\n
