Biography
Avinia Ismiyati is a PhD candidate in Environmental Health Sciences (Human Factors & Ergonomics) at the University of California, Berkeley School of Public Health, at the UC Ergonomics Laboratory. Her research validates computer vision-based RULA (CV-RULA) ergonomic assessment using MediaPipe pose estimation against Xsens inertial measurement units and human observer ratings, with the goal of making workplace ergonomic surveillance more scalable and accessible. Her work spans lab validation, camera-angle effects, and a field study linking CV-RULA scores to musculoskeletal outcomes and psychosocial factors among stationary upper-limb workers. Avinia is the recipient of the 2026 AIHA-NCS Legge Student Award, placed 2nd at the UC Berkeley Grad Slam, and received Best Poster Presenter at the NORA 2026 Symposium. Beyond her own research, she is a team member of the Collective Breath project, a Berkeley School of Public Health Impact Innovators initiative deploying PurpleAir PM2.5 sensors at Bay Area schools and community centers.
