Face Mask Non-Compliance Among Dentists: Observational Study in Jordan

DescriptionWhile Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) represents the final tier in the hierarchy of occupational safety controls, its efficacy remains dependent on user adherence. This study examined real-world non-compliance of face masks among dental professionals to identify behavioral risks. The study involved observing a fourteen dentists while working on patients while wearing N95 and surgical masks across multiple clinical procedures. The impact of procedure duration, professional experience, gender, and fatigue on compliance levels were analyzed using a linear mixed-effects model. Findings reveal that procedure duration significantly influenced the dentists non-compliance, suggesting that prolonged clinical tasks may erode safety behaviors. These results highlight the need for targeted interventions to maintain PPE integrity during lengthy procedures.
