Bridging Human–AI Interaction and Human–Robot Interaction: Shared Challenges, Converging Futures
DescriptionAs artificial intelligence becomes more common in everyday life, researchers are increasingly asking how people can work safely, effectively, and confidently with intelligent systems. This panel brings together experts in human–AI interaction and human–robot interaction to explore where these fields overlap, where they differ, and what that means for the future of human-centered system design.
The discussion will focus on shared challenges such as trust, transparency, mental workload, usability, teamwork, and safety across both embodied systems (e.g., robots) and non-embodied systems (e.g., decision-support tools and conversational AI). Panelists will draw on examples from healthcare, home settings, transportation, defense, and workplace technologies to examine how intelligent systems can be designed and evaluated to better support human performance and well-being.
A key goal of the panel is to bridge research communities that have often developed separately, despite facing many of the same practical and scientific questions. By connecting these perspectives, the session will highlight common design principles, identify research gaps, and encourage collaboration across disciplines.
