Reflecting on 35 Years of the Office Ergonomics Research Committee (OERC): Funded Research to Reality Studies

DescriptionThe Office Ergonomics Research Committee (OERC) is a unique industry research consortium consisting of companies that collaborate to advance ergonomics and human factors research in the design and management of knowledge workplaces, systems, processes, and products. OERC members represent a diverse group of organizations with a common interest in complex human-computer technology systems, namely, office ergonomics. Members of OERC seek to expand their understanding of the human-technology system in office settings through sponsored research by partnering with university researchers to advance knowledge in human factors and ergonomics for office workers in conventional offices, as well as hybrid and remote work environments. OERC has funded research projects that explore novel approaches, address underexplored challenges, and generate research with actionable insights that support healthier, more productive, and equitable office environments for over the last 35 years. OERC provides unique opportunities to both industry-applied researchers and academic researchers to identify emerging office ergonomics/human factors research areas that will be impactful and explore emerging spaces. This panel comprises OERC members and previously OERC-funded university researchers, who will present highlights and reflections on their academic research projects as well as the benefits and role of OERC membership.
