Presentation
Building Industry Advisory Boards for Human Factors & Ergonomics Programs
DescriptionNo matter if you are industry- or academics-focused, this panel will enhance the symbiotic relationships that can be cultivated between them for the betterment of students and professionals. Want to improve your academic HF/E program's relationship with industry or improve your student’s career prospects? Want to learn how industry relations can help academic track students sharpen their skills, broaden their experiences? And how programs may benefit from knowing about cutting edge trends in industry? Panelists will share their experiences creating an Industry Advisory Board (IAB) at Arizona State University... and the most EXCITING part is that they will be soliciting 'best practices' from the audience! Come shape the future of these important symbiotic relationships with academia! We plan to cover (1) How to start an IAB, (2) Why each party (academia, industry, government) would participate, (3) What IAB's accomplish, (4) Importance of a mission/charter, (5) Early lessons learned for developing IAB activities and the engagement of students and professionals, (6) Success stories from ASU’s IAB so far, and challenge points. Open discussion and feedback during and following the session will help gather lessons learned to be shared with the broader HFES community.
