Design Strategies for Refresh Waiting in Mobile Apps
DescriptionMobile users have become accustomed to immediate feedback, making even brief loading delays a critical determinant of user experience in smartphone apps. Because network and system latency cannot be fully eliminated, interface design must complement performance optimization by shaping how delays are perceived and tolerated.
This study focuses on page-level refresh loading, one of the most frequent micro-waiting situations in mobile use, and asks: (1) how does loading duration quantitatively relate to waiting experience in refresh contexts, and (2) which indicator and layout strategies are most suitable for different refresh interactions?
