Triangulating to Assess Mission Performance and Readiness in Military Teams

DescriptionMeasuring and predicting team operational readiness is paramount to establishing effective teams. However, existing approaches to team performance assessment frequently depend on a single measure and therefore are unable to provide a complete or generalizable representation of how teams function. This is particularly relevant in complex and safety-critical environments such as military operations. Triangulation offers a solution to this limitation by integrating multiple perspectives on team performance, allowing researchers to capture different dimensions of team functioning from complementary vantage points. The objective of this work is to leverage triangulation to bridge team behavioral competencies with complementary performance indicators, aiming to improve interpretability and applicability in a population of undergraduate students trained to perform a military simulation task.
